Randy R Ashford, MS, LMHC- is licensed in the state of Washington. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from University of Alaska, Anchorage, and a Master of Science degree in Community Mental Health from Southern New Hampshire University. Randy’s training includes a number of certificates and specialized training in areas such as early childhood mental health consultation, reflective practices supervision, cross-cultural counseling and traditional indigenous cultures, provision of mental health services in home-based, school, and clinical settings, along with a versatile range of technical and administrative skills.
Biography- Randy spent most of his youth in Minnesota before moving to Boston, Massachusetts, where he graduated High School. At age 21, he moved to Alaska to experience the adventures he’d read about in Jack London novels. There, he first found work in a cannery, then moved onto a series of stints as carpenter, fisherman, ironworker, warehouseman, cabinetmaker, small business owner, and others before moving into the oilfield. He eventually retired after working 15 years in various locations and countries, and returned to college in 2004 to pursue higher education, where his counseling career first began with a posting as an assistant in his campus career center. It was during this time, on an undergraduate fast-track, he realized that helping others through counseling “clicked” for him. Before leaving Alaska, Randy worked at the Alaska Child Trauma Center in a program funded by the Department of Justice, providing therapeutic services to families of Alaska Native and American Indian children exposed to intimate partner violence. After a family member became diagnosed with a serious mental illness, and affordable services could not be locally sourced, Randy moved with his family to the lower 48 states and settled in Spokane. There, he decided to begin a private practice. Randy is both the Director and owner of Ashford Counseling and Consultation, offering a variety of clinical and consultative services to a diverse clientele.
